The Cockatoo - a bar, restaurant and performance space designed by Nice Projects - is the latest addition to the iconic east London venue, Bistrotheque.
20 years after the venue first opened, the ground floor of the early 20th century industrial warehouse has been transformed into a restaurant and event space. It will host dance parties, live performance, cabaret, and Sunday brunch. Nice Projects has created a flexible layout, based on a bespoke modular banquette system on lockable wheels, paired with green mohair velvet and translucent polyester grating. A ceiling made up of 250 metres of fringe, attached to metal grating, sets the stage. Columns clad in mirror mosaic reference the glamour and grit of nightclubs and discos.
Reimagined as a film set of a classic French brasserie and cabaret, each aspect of the pared back design adds to the theatrical mood.
